Event description

What’s it all about? –

Do you have a favourite piece of clothing that is looking the worst for wear? In this workshop you will learn how to create one-off patches to repair them.  You will be creating your own embroidered sew-on patches using recycled textiles.

Repair and individualise pieces in your wardrobe and join the sustainable fashion revolution and minimise the environmental impact of the textile industry by prolonging the life of your garments, and re-loving the clothes already in your wardrobe.

You will learn hand stitching techniques that offer lots of creative possibilities for repairing & enhancing your clothes and household textiles.

What will we cover?

The workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced stitchers aged 10 years and up.

We will begin with some sewing basics, learn running stitch, along with some other stitches and ways to apply your patches. Then it will be time to get creative and start stitching.

What you will need:

  • Bring along a piece of clothing that needs patching to add your patch to.
  • Materials and threads will be supplied but you are welcome to bring any fabric you would like to use from home – cut up clothing, linen that is past repair, left over fabric from sewing projects, upholstery offcuts – this list is endless!
  • And most importantly bring your imagination and enthusiasm!

What’s provided:

  • A selection of fabric for patching
  • Thread – sewing thread, embroidery floss, embroidery cottons
  • Pins and needles
  • Scissors
  • Sewing notions as required
