LGBTQIA+ 101 Workshop
Event description
Join LINE Wangaratta for a free workshop for businesses, community groups and organisations to learn more about the LGBTQIA+ community.Â
Expect to learn:
- Basic LGBTQIA+ terminology and definitions,
- Health and wellbeing disparities experienced by LGBTQIA+ people,
- Why LGBTQIA+ inclusive practice is important,
- What you can do to implement LGBTQIA+ inclusive practice.
The session is expected to run for 2 hours and includes a break and question time.Â
This workshop is best suited for:
- Volunteers and committee members from community groups,
- Business owners and staff,
- Leaders and senior management from local organisations,
- Local council staff, and
- Staff, mangers and board members from health and wellbeing organations.
It is not expected that workshop participants will have pre-existing knowledge of LGBTQIA+ communities, and basic information is covered to ensure an accurate and evidence-based foundational knowledge.

The LGBTQIA+ 101 Workshop is facilitated by Al Winters (they/them), a neurodiverse, bi+ non-binary parent and advocate. Al works as the Executive Officer of LINE Wangaratta, and has completed the Alpine Valleys Community Leadership Program, the Victorian LGBTIQ+ Leadership Program and the AICD Company Directors Course. They also co-facilitated the Victorian LGBTIQ+ Leadership Program in 2023, supporting emerging leaders from community. Al is passionate about social justice, advocacy and equitable access to health and community services for LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse people in regional Victoria.
