Georges River Council values the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Queer, Intersex, Agender, Asexual and Ally (LGBTQIA+) communities of Georges River. Every June we mark Pride Month to celebrate the contributions of our LGBTQIA+ community and highlight our commitment to creating a safe, inclusive environment for all.

Council is offering community sector workers and small businesses the opportunity to take part in training to support inclusion of the local LGBTQIA+ community.

This free training will:

increase your awareness of LGBTQIA+ people and communities, and their unique health and wellbeing needs
improve your ability to respond inclusively to the needs to the LGBTQIA+ people and communities.

11am - 12:30pm: Part 1: LGBTQ+ Introduction
12:30pm - 1:30pm: Lunch
1:30pm - 3:00pm: Part 2: Inclusive Customer Service

Location: The Dragon Room, Civic Centre, Corner of MacMahon and Dora Streets, Hurstville

Registration is required as spaces are limited.

The training will be split into two parts. You can attend Part 1, Part 2 or both.

What should I know about the trans community? Why is inclusion important? What are some ways I can be an ally?	11:00am - 12:30pm (1.5 hours)
Part 2: LGBTQIA+ Inclusive Customer Service	This training will build your confidence to engage respectfully and affirmatively with LGBTQIA+ customers from all backgrounds. Developed by LGBTQIA+ subject matter experts and enriched with real stories from community members, it offers practical tools to create positive, inclusive experiences — from using neutral language and mirroring customer cues, to addressing mistakes with care. Ideal for anyone in a customer‑facing role, this training will help you strengthen communication, foster belonging, and ensure every customer feels safe, valued, and respected.	1:30pm - 3:00pm (1.5 hours)

About ACON

ACON is Australia’s largest health organisation specialising in community health, inclusion, and HIV responses for people of diverse sexualities and genders (LGBTQIA+ people). Pride Training is an ACON social enterprise and one of the Pride Inclusion Programs. They are here to improve the health and wellbeing of people from sexuality and gender diverse communities by building the capacity, knowledge, and confidence of service providers to deliver inclusive and affirming practices and services.

Parking

There is a ticketed Council carpark next to the Centre, on the corner of Park Rd/Queens Rd/MacMahon St. There is also free, unticketed street parking available in the streets between Hurstville Library and Hurstville Oval.

Public Transport

The Centre is a 7-minute walk from Hurstville Station and 7-minute walk from Hurstville bus interchange.
