Liberatory Marketing: Newsletters

A 4-week series for radical small business owners Tuesdays in August | 12:00–1:30pm ET | Online

Less platform. More presence. More yours.

This is a 4-week, live, online series for small business owners who are trying to do good work, stay in right relationship, and keep the lights on — all at the same time.

We're all operating in conditions that are, to put it mildly, a lot. And in the middle of all of it, we're still trying to run businesses that reflect our values, serve our communities, and pay our bills. That's not a small thing.

A newsletter, a blog, a Substack — whatever you call it, long-form writing won't fix the world. But it's something you own. Something that lets you stay in real, ongoing relationship with the people who care about your work — on your terms, in your voice, without handing your labor to a platform that doesn't share your politics or your values.

This series is about building that. Not a marketing machine. Not a funnel. Just a simple, sustainable way to stay connected and be findable by your people.

We'll build this mostly through email, because email is the clearest way to learn sequencing — how to write pieces that build on each other over time. But the skills transfer. If email isn't your medium, apply everything here to a blog series or a Substack that goes deep on one topic instead.

High-level roadmap

Over four weeks, we'll cover:

Week 1: Marketing, sales, and showing up as yourself. Separating marketing from sales, exploring your history with both, and getting grounded in how you actually want to build relationships.
Week 2: Setting up your home base — choosing a platform (email, blog, or Substack), basic automations, and building a simple, maintainable system. Technical in a calm way.
Week 3: Writing your pieces. What to send or publish, how to structure it, and how to inform and invite without urgency or performance. You'll draft something — an email or a post — you can actually use.
Week 4: Sequencing. How to write a series of emails (or posts) that help new people understand who you are and what you do — in a way that feels like you, not like a sales machine. We'll focus on email sequences, but the same structure works for a blog series that does a deep dive into one topic.
