Guide Mākereti Papakura of Whakarewarewa was recently awarded a posthumous degree from the University of Oxford. Emeritus Professor Ngāhuia Te Awekōtuku was honoured to attend the ceremony with a group of kin from Mākereti’s village. In this talk, the legacy of Mākereti will be discussed, as well as the world’s most illustrious indigenous scholars; women of commitment, of vision, of courage.
