Event description

Ages 16+ | 6PM to 9PM every Wednesday*

Begins February 8th and continues for 8 weeks

*Due to scheduling issues, three classes will be on the week's Friday rather than Wednesday: 24/2, 03/3 & 31/3

Come along and join our group of friendly artists, dedicated to the age-old discipline of figure drawing. Whether you are a total beginner or a seasoned pro, this class will give you plenty of tips, encouragement and enjoyment, as you sketch our fantastic models. Danny has been teaching life drawing in Tamworth since 2017, and has assisted many students in their goals of learning to draw. The Tamworth Community Centre provides a gorgeous, heritage-listed and comfortable home for our classes.

Life Drawing

Life Drawing is an essential component of visual arts training. Drawing a live model gives us training in recognizing and expressing form, gesture and anatomy. Each class begins with short poses and ends with a long pose, training students in working quick and loose, as well as slowly and methodically. Each lesson features specific techniques, exercises or anatomical information, which is reinforced by individual feedback. This personalised feedback from artists with expertise is the backbone of visual arts training.

Summer Term

Following on from our Spring Term, which focused on an observational approach, Spring Term will focus on an anatomical approach to life drawing. This means using our full-size skeleton model, our collection of art books (which are available for students to borrow) and other resources, the lessons systematically go through the skeleton and visible muscles of the body, and how to simplify, memorise and visualise them. Different body parts are covered each week, allowing students to gradually build their knowledge base.

Alchohol/Under 18's

Adults over 18 are welcome to BYO alcoholic drinks. As such, students under 18 will need to have a guardian sign a written consent from, that they understand adults may be consuming alchoholic beverages in the class, and also that the class uses nude models.

Campgrounds Cafe Showcase

At the end of the term, students will have the opportunity to showcase some of their best work at a mini exhibition at Campgrounds Cafe.

Who is this for?

Led by trained professionals with an abundance of experience and expertise, these classes are useful for any artist, be they total beginner or working professional. Different styles and interests are catered for, with a focus on learning the universal visual language of the world around us, which can have infinite applications in artistic expression. We at TAA strongly believe that not only is creating art enjoyable, the act of learning, and improving our understanding of the world around us is excellent for one's mental well-being.
