Life Stories Writing Workshop
Event description
This workshop will help participants learn the art of writing someone’s life stories – especially the stories of a person living with a life-limiting condition or illness.
Over two half days, participants will be guided through the process of creating a life narrative, with practical exercises and reflective discussions. The workshop will cover:
Beginning the storytelling process
Interviewing techniques
Recording and transcription
Structuring and writing the story
Editing and proofreading
Options for printing or publishing
Participants will have the opportunity to practice listening, recording, and shaping a story with care and sensitivity. The workshop also explores the emotional and ethical aspects of working closely with people nearing the end-of-life.
Usually not as extensive as a memoir or biography, life stories document an individual’s journey, experiences, and personal reflections. This can be shared with loved ones as a way to preserve memories.
This workshop is part of the Creative Legacy Initiative (CLI), a Highlands End-of-Life Project program that supports people who are dying, and those close to them, to create meaningful and creative legacy projects for personal expression, connection, and remembrance.
