Prepare to be amazed, enthralled, dazzled, as the Maungarei Springs Wetlands is transformed into a magical theatre of light. Bring the whole family to the Stonefields wetlands reserve on any evening Friday–Sunday 21–23 August and experience a breathtaking light installation and cinematic soundscape.
The wetlands in Stonefields is a uniquely stunning urban location for this large-scale lighting event, with a boardwalk leading you over shimmering water, surrounded by a majestic cliff face, and overlooked by Maungarei (Mt Wellington) and its rich history.
Lightfields is a free, inclusive and accessible* event. It’s open from 5:30pm to 10:00pm each evening from Friday to Sunday, 21–23 August.
Free admission but tickets are essential. Allow 30–45 minutes to enjoy this immersive experience.
What you need to know before you visit
This is a walk-in event. Wear comfortable shoes. There is no on-site parking.
There’s ample free parking nearby. Take an easy 10–15 min walk, or hop on the Europlan FREE BUS from the Auckland Netball Centre car park that takes you straight to the entrance.

- Where can I park?
Park in one of the three car parks within an easy, flat 10–15 min walk, or take the FREE BUS.
Auckland Netball Centre, 7 Allison Ferguson Drive. Just a 10–15 min flat walk, or take the Europlan FREE BUS to Lightfields from the car park.
Stonefields Market, 30 Stonefields Ave. For those who want to grab a meal or drink at the Stonefields Pub or Big Fish restaurant, or try the famous gourmet burgers from the Chosen Bun, you can leave your car and it’s just a flat 10 minute walk to Lightfields.
Stoneridge on Lunn, 87-101 Lunn Ave. A 10 minute walk (entry beside Melba cafe) and there are some great family eateries there to try before or after your visit to Lightfields. Please note that there are steps on the walk to Lightfields from this location.
- Why is this a walk-in event?
Maungarei Springs Wetlands is a unique urban landscape that we are keen to share. It is set on the edge of a small planned community where streets are narrow and there are few on-street parks. It will become grid-locked and unsafe if a lot of cars circle around looking for parking that isn’t there.
We have arranged for free parking in three car parks right on the edge of Stonefields, all within an easy 10–15 min walk. From one of them, the Auckland Netball Centre car park, a free bus will run every few minutes from the car park to the Lightfields entrance. - * What if I have special mobility needs?
We have a drop-off/pick-up zone near the event entrance. Drive to the end of Stonefields Ave and the drop-off/pick-up zone is about 50m to the right.
Lightfields itself has been designed as an inclusive, accessible event. However, please note that there are about a dozen steps that lead down to the boardwalk area. Some parts of the light displays are accessible without steps.
- Will there be food trucks?
No. There is no food at Lightfields but there are some great places nearby.
- Is there anywhere to eat nearby?
Yes! We have some great eateries at Stoneridge Lunn Ave and the Stonefields Market with parking also available, so plan to make an evening of it.
At Stonefields Market, try the Stonefields Pub or Big Fish restaurant, grab a famous gourmet burger at the Chosen Bun, or satisfy your sweet tooth at the Gateau House.
At Stoneridge Lunn Ave, choices include Mapari Meats smash burgers, Taco Bell, Ko Ko Dok Korean fried chicken, SaigonHaven Vietnamese and Asian fusion, and Katsu-Tei and the Sushi Don Japanese cuisine. Plenty to pick from!

- Can I bike there?
Yes! There’s a protected cycle lane from the end of the Glen Innes shared path to Stonefields Market and well lit streets down to the wetlands. On the Friday night there will be FREE BIKE VALET PARKING courtesy of Bike Eastern Suburbs who will look after your bike while you’re at the show.
