Photo opportunities abound year round at the Arnold Arboretum, but especially in the spring when the lilacs are blooming

Lilac Sunday (scheduled for Mother’s Day, May 11) is the Arboretum’s signature event, drawing thousands of visitors to view the collection and walk the grounds. On this workshop we will visit the Lilac collection first and then other parts of the park, like the nearby Maples collection. We will meet at the Hunnewell Building at 8 am and take a 10 minute walk to the lilacs

This is not an Arnold Arboretum sponsored event. $5 donation to the Friends of the Arboretum included for all registrants.

Refund policy

Once workshops are paid in full, no refunds or credits will be granted. You may self-refund directly within your booking confirmation for 50% of the total if the workshop is 30 or more days away. Within 30 days, you will not be granted a refund of any kind. This is to ensure fairness to our instructors who work hard developing their programs, and to other students. Booking fees are never refundable (we don't have control over them. They are donated to charities by the booking platform) Workshop fees are not valid toward any photo tour, private experience, or otherwise, and vice versa. Workshops are conducted rain or shine, unless a determination has been made in an emergency or other event rendering the workshop unsafe or impossible. In this case, registrations are provided full refunds.

Erik Gehring is a freelance photographer who specializes in trees and natural landscapes. He is the Director at the Menino Arts Center, home of the Hyde Park Art Association in Boston and is a past President of the Boston Camera Club. He lives in the West Roxbury neighborhood of Boston with his wife Julie, sons Carl and William, and dog Comet. Although Erik enjoys photographing natural environments all over New England, his favorite destination is Boston’s Arnold Arboretum.

Erik’s work has appeared in Yankee Magazine, AMC’s Outdoors, Northern Woodlands, The Boston Globe, The Boston Metro, the Cape Cod Times, E the Environmental Magazine, and other publications. He has shown his fine art prints at galleries throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

Erik also has lectured and taught workshops at the Arboretum, the Griffin Museum of Photography, the Photographic Resource Center in Cambridge, the Eliot School in Jamaica Plain, the Cambridge Art Association, the Concord Art Association, the Hyde Park Art Association, and at locations all over New England for BlueHour.
