Woven Wrap Workshop

Curious about woven wraps, but not quite sure where to start? Perhaps you already own one and would like some help using it confidently, or you’ve been wrapping for a while and would like to learn another carry.

Join South Eastern Babywearing Group for a practical, hands-on workshop exploring the versatility of woven wraps.

Woven wraps can be used from newborn through to toddlerhood and beyond, with a huge range of carrying options. Unlike stretchy wraps, woven wraps do not stretch and can be used for front, hip and back carries. They can look complicated at first, but learning a few basic techniques can make them much more approachable.

What we’ll cover

We’ll begin with the foundations of woven wrapping, including:

- choosing an appropriate wrap and understanding wrap sizes

- positioning your baby safely and comfortably

- creating and maintaining a good seat

- tightening the wrap effectively, strand by strand

- recognising and correcting common problems

- finishing and tying off securely

- understanding how different carries distribute your baby’s weight

- choosing carries appropriate for your baby’s age and developmental stage.

We’ll demonstrate a Front Wrap Cross Carry (FWCC) as a useful foundation carry and give you the opportunity to practise with individual guidance.

Depending on the experience and interests of the group, we can also explore other front or hip carries and introduce the principles of back wrapping for older babies and children who are developmentally ready.

This workshop is for you if…

You’ve never used a woven wrap before, have tried one but found it overwhelming, already wrap and would like help refining your technique, or simply want to try woven wrapping before deciding whether it is for you.

You do not need to own a woven wrap to attend. We’ll have wraps available to practise with, and you are very welcome to bring your own.

Babies and children are welcome. We also have weighted demonstration dolls available, so you can practise a new technique before trying it with your child.

A hands-on workshop

This is a workshop rather than a drop-in fit-check session. We’ll learn together, demonstrate techniques step by step and then allow plenty of time for supported practice.

Numbers are deliberately limited so that participants can receive individual assistance.

Please plan to arrive at the beginning of the session so you don’t miss the safety information and foundation skills that we’ll build on throughout the workshop.

Babywearing safety

Safe babywearing principles will be incorporated throughout the session. We’ll look at positioning that keeps your baby upright, visible and kissable, with their face uncovered and airway clear, following the T.I.C.K.S. principles for safe babywearing.

Our aim isn’t to achieve a picture-perfect wrap job. It’s to help you understand why a carry works, recognise when something needs adjusting, and leave feeling more confident about wrapping safely and comfortably in everyday life.

Whether your woven wrap is still sitting untouched in its box, you’ve been trying to learn from videos, or you’ve already discovered how wonderfully versatile woven wraps can be, you’re very welcome to join us.
