LIMS x ONJCRI WORLD CANCER DAY

Cancer touches the lives of many Australians, affecting families, friends and communities. It is a complex disease and encompasses more than 100 distinct conditions, each with its own challenges. Beyond the physical illness, cancer impacts emotional, social and mental wellbeing. It can impact anyone, at any time and tackling cancer requires a holistic approach. Our event brings together researchers, clinicians, and the community to share knowledge, experiences and explore the progress and possibilities that lie ahead.

To mark World Cancer Day 2026, the La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS) and the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute (ONJCRI) invite you to “Tackling Cancer on Multiple Fronts: Panel Discussion and Lab Discovery Tour”. 

At the event you will: 

• Learn about cancer – what it is, and how it develops, and what to do if you are diagnosed. 

• Hear stories from members of the community about what it’s like to live with cancer. 

• Learn how scientists and clinicians at LIMS and ONJCRI are finding new ways to detect cancer earlier, treat it more effectively, and how we can prevent it.  

• Visit our lab facilities, participate in activities, and meet our researchers over light refreshments (in-person attendees).

We hope you can join us for this peek into the world of cancer research, and learn how communities, clinicians and researchers are working together towards a future where cancer prevention could be possible, and where screening, diagnosis and treatment will be faster, safer, and more accessible for all.
