“How do we address bias and racism to ensure equity and inclusion for ākonga Māori and all ākonga in our Aotearoa kura?”

Our Leadership Lab Cultural capability team support kaiako (teachers) and tumuaki (principals) to grow competence and confidence in Te Tiriti o Waitangi, kaupapa Māori, critical consciousness and inclusion.

This wānanga is an opportunity to kōrero with the Leadership Lab team and explore ways to develop individual and collective competence and confidence in culturally sustaining teaching and leading.  The wānanga will be a safe place to explore;

  • journeying towards the knowledge and skills to become a Treaty partner in practice
  • creating open spaces for dialogue that allow for safe and courageous conversations
  • applying the principles of the powhiri process to core practices in kura so that tikanga is normalised
  • developing confidence to design and lead educational initiatives in a culturally sustaining way

The LinC Project (Leaders in Community) has been working towards its vision of seeing ‘thriving leaders active in flourishing communities’ of Ōtautahi and surrounds since 2014. Responding to the current needs of community leaders, LinC Rourou is an initiative which evolved from LinC Activator (public speaker series) and LinC Cultivator (peer-to-peer leadership programme).

The series explores ways to amplifying marginalised voices for advocacy and to provoke system change by:

  • hosting spaces to listen to contemporary issues and voices
  • modelling inclusion of diversity
  • collaborating with others to address gnarly issues
  • empowering community leaders to use their strengths to design and host initiatives open to all
