Recovery Reset: A Conversation with the community

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

The recovery so far has failed. Our voices need to be heard.

The situation in the Northern Rivers remains a humanitarian disaster. With the new authority established, and a relatively new government at both state and federal level, this is our opportunity to call for a stop before pressing the reset button.

The first step in the reset is to repair the damage, restore our faith and shift the narrative at a community gathering.

Local politicians Janelle Saffin MP and Sue Higginson MLC and other decision makers are coming to listen, not to speak, because our voices should be centered.

We ask you to consider what it is you’d most like to express to ‘decision-makers’ about the experience of ‘recovery’ so far? Being specific will be really helpful.

  • What has been damaging or needlessly difficult?
  • What experiences have eroded your trust in the process?
  • And what do you feel we need for a really effective reset, one you can trust?

This meeting is intended to be a healing and motivating experience that builds common purpose and solidarity in the community.

This event takes place on unceded Widjabul-Wia-bal lands of the Bundjalung nation - people from across the Northern Rivers are warmly invited to attend.

Program:

  • Smoking ceremony with Uncle Gilbert in the arcade at 5pm.
  • Conversation: 5:30 Start, till 7:30, with interval
  • Entertainment by Bella Frankie and light refreshments from the bar.
  • Where: Starcourt Theatre,126 Molesworth St, Lismore

Red Cross volunteers will be in attendance to provide wellbeing support should people wish to talk about their experiences or to chat to someone before they head home.

The event will be Auslan interpreted.

Note
: When you register for the event there are a number of optional 'checkout questions' you can fill out. You don't need to fill them in to attend the event, however, by filling them in we build a bigger picture understanding of where the community is at concerning the recovery.
