    Event description

    When: Thursday  19 September, 5.30pm - 7pm
    Cost: Free
    Where: Wagga Wagga Art Gallery

Join artist Inga Hanover and author Andra Putnis together in conversation about the weaving together of post-war immigration stories and identities. They will speak about their shared Latvian heritage and family stories, themes that both author and artist explore through their work.

Andra Putnis’ critically and popularly acclaimed book, Stories My Grandmothers Didn’t Tell Me (Allen & Unwin, 2024) explores the lives and journeys of her two Latvian grandmothers who lived through the Soviet and Nazi occupations of Latvia during Second World War, and survived to settle Australia. As the world grapples with its modern day challenges, Andra will reflect on why we need the stories of the people who came before us – our parents and grandparents – to better understand where we come from and who we want to be.

Currently on display at Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, Inga Hanover’s exhibition sen mēs tev jau gaidījām – we have been waiting for you long ago, weaves together installation, textiles, and video work and explores her deep yearning for home and Latvian folklore and traditions.

Book sales and signing by Andra will be available at the event.
