Listen to Us: See the stories behind the Disability Royal Commission brought to life though art
About the event
The Disability Royal Commission (DRC) heard from nearly 8000 people with disability, their families, supporters and advocates. Their experiences painted a picture of a more inclusive and equitable Australia and set out a roadmap for change. Now, we are working together to ensure those voices continue to be heard and that the Commission's recommendations lead to meaningful action.
Listen to Us brings together Queensland artists whose new artworks explore the themes that matter most to people with disability. Through painting, photography, mixed media and other artistic forms, these artworks reflect personal experiences, hopes and calls for change.
Each artwork invites us to stop, look, listen and remember what the Disability Royal Commission uncovered. Together, they remind us of the importance of continuing to work with people with disability to build a Queensland where everyone can participate, contribute and belong.
Held at Queensland Parliament House on 1 December 2026, just ahead of International Day of People with Disability, Listen to Us brings together artists, community members, advocates and decision-makers to reflect on the stories, experiences and aspirations of disabled Queenslanders.

About DRC Still Matters
The DRC Still Matters campaign is led by Disability Advocacy and Representative Organisations across Australia. We are tracking government progress on the Disability Royal Commission's recommendations and building an independent, accessible tracker to help people with disability and the community monitor implementation and drive change.
Listen to Us forms part of this broader effort to ensure the voices heard by the Royal Commission continue to be listened to and acted upon.

- Who is the event for?
Listen to Us is open to people with disability, families, supporters, advocates, service providers, government representatives, parliamentarians, legal professionals and members of the broader community who are interested in disability rights and inclusion.
- Do I need to know about the Disability Royal Commission to attend?
No. Everyone is welcome. The exhibition and presentations are designed to be engaging whether you are familiar with the Disability Royal Commission or learning about its findings for the first time.
- What accessibility supports will be available?
We are committed to making this event as accessible as possible. Accessibility supports will include Auslan interpretation, live captions, accessible seating and a quiet space. Assistance animals are welcome.
Support people, family members, carers and companions are welcome. Please ensure that everyone attending registers for a ticket.

- What should I wear?
Smart casual attire is recommended. As part of the event is outdoors, we encourage attendees to dress comfortably for the weather.
- Are there security requirements for entry?
Yes. As this event is held at Queensland Parliament House, all visitors must pass through security screening.

Security screening can sometimes take a little time, so we encourage guests to arrive early (15-20 minutes).
- How do I get there?
Queensland Parliament House is located at the corner of Alice and George Streets, Brisbane CBD. Entry to the Parliamentary precinct is via the Parliamentary Annexe at 69 Alice Street.
Public transport
10 minutes walking distance of the Gardens Point Ferry terminal and a number of bus stops on Alice and George Streets. More information about Brisbane public transport is available by calling Translink on 13 12 30 or visiting their website at www.translink.com.au.
Parking
As Parliament will be sitting on the day of the event, general visitor parking is not available onsite.
Metered street parking and public parking stations are available nearby. Limited accessible parking may be available by arrangement with Parliament House.
