Sound pulses through our bodies, resonances are deeply felt. How does tuning into frequency give us techniques for hearing through meanings, struggles, and creative ways of being and knowing?

In our second session artist, DJ, researcher and DIY sound system builder Lulu Quintanillia (DJ General Feelings) takes us through the phenomena of Frequency. She invites us to consider sound brings us together, how it has been weaponised, and ways she's used sound system tech as a tools of rupture and joy.

Listen back to Race Matters' interview with Lulu in conversation with Mazzacles / Madi Martin Bygrave and Virginia Barahona.

Race Matters presents: Listening Through an experimental, anti-racist listening syllabus and workshop series ⋆˚꩜｡

Listening Through was created to foreground the politics of sound and listening, and reclaim them as activist practices. Our purpose is to foster an anti-racist creative programme that’s not just reactive, but also abstract, imaginative and challenging. We’ll listen through seven concepts that hold promise for praxis: place, frequency, noise, silence, glitch, breath and rage.

This is a free, online program open to all. Spaces limited.

Listening Through is a program for listening and radio-making practice. Open to people working with sound around the continent of ~~australia~~, it hopes to equip attendees with critical and practical skills in radio (and adjacent fields) – specifically grounded in an anti-colonial and anti-racist standpoint.
We acknowledge the land that Race Matters gathers, broadcasts and creates from. The land of the Gadigal peoples, as well as the traditional custodians of the many lands across which this program will reach, and recognise their continuing connection to Country. This land has been held, tended, and fought for by generations of Gadigal custodians for thousands of years before us, and we are indebted to the legacy of storytelling and songlines that will continue long after us.
We extend this respect to all those resisting occupation and guiding us towards liberation.
