In this practical, hands-on workshop, educator, writer and hip-hop artist Dr Charlie Thomson explores how poetic devices are used in hip hop lyrics - and how students can identify, analyse and apply them in their own writing.

With more than 20 years’ experience engaging young people through creativity and storytelling, Charlie has presented at major literature festivals and international conferences, including the World Shakespeare Congress and New York University’s Hip-Hop Education Centre. His dynamic approach connects music, language and literature in ways that resonate with today’s students.

You’ll walk away with classroom-ready strategies grounded in research-based hip hop pedagogy to support literacy development, strengthen creative writing skills and create an engaging, inclusive learning environment.
