Talkin' the Drum presents:
The Little Big Bang - West End Brisbane
Celebrating the Power of Africa!
AHEPA Hall
West End, Brisbane
Saturday July 29th
Doors open 2 pm
Live music from 2:30 pm
That's right, new format; we are doing an AFTERNOON concert!! Your night remains open!
Featuring:
Mohamed Bangoura aka Bangoura Ke
The power of this African musician is extraordinary!! BK, considered the most outstanding proponent of the djembe in Australia, is an absolute machine, a total unit! His hands move at the speed of light, creating a visual blur, frequently breaking the sound barrier!!
In Guinea, West Africa, Bangoura Ke is known as the "Lion of Matam, with hands of fire!" Born into a Griot family it is both his privilege and responsibility to cultivate a healthy community through the passing down of the history and cultural protocols of his ancestry. In addition to his virtuosic djembe playing BK is one of the loveliest humans on the planet; honourable, so sweet, so generous, so caring and kind.
Alone he can already light up a dance floor but he will be joined by:
Spankinhide
The very existence of Spankinhide is to fuel the fire of dance. Rich rhythms, driving doundoun melodies, crack and boom to fill the room! A new ancient medicine, dance your way to great health!
Zormiwasa
simply…..EPIC!!
Imagine 30 people playing African drums in unison....imagine a wall of groove, so thick it literally moves your body.....With super dynamic arrangements led by Elliott Orr this is engaging from the first beat.
This is the very essence of community! Many beautiful souls bringing their love of rhythm and dance into a collective moment of connection and expression.
For this Little Big Bang we will perform 2 rhythms Sankaran and Zebola. Sankaran comes from Guinea West Africa and was taught to Elliott by Bangoura Ke in 2019. BK will join Elliott in leading Zormiwasa through this incredible rhythmic journey.
Come early to witness this true magic!
