Have you ever met a child who was not fascinated by water? From ice blocks to raindrops, children love to explore water. Come along to Little Scientist’s foundational Water & Early STEM in Co-Constructed Environments workshop to learn how to create exciting learning experiences in which children explore water with all five senses, investigate its many aggregate states, and test the solubility of various substances.

This will include:

Exploring the density of water by making rainbow layers and “floating” objects beneath the surface without sinking to the bottom.
Finding out if it’s possible to boil water in balloons and mix (and then unmix!) colour pigments in water.
Hiding objects within bubbles and making bubble cubes.
Exploring capillary action with the walking water experiment and watching a stick of celery turn blue.
Observing the interactions between ice and salt and hydophobic and hydrophilic objects. Just to name a few!

Our Water Workshop is Little Scientists’ foundational workshop and we strongly recommend every educator attend this workshop at one point. This is because the topic of water provides an effective vehicle through which to explore the pillars of the Little Scientists' educational approach: co-construction, metacognition, and inquiry-based learning.

This hands on, interactive 3.5 hour professional development workshop will give you the confidence to unlock the wonders of STEM in your service through the gateway of water.

Special shortened format!

This water workshop in Seaforth is really special! It's our first time running the 3.5 hours version of our workshop, which means you'll be one of the first to experience our new, improved format. We're excited to deliver you the same great content and hands on, inquiry-based approach — just in fewer, more condensed hours.

As this is our first condensed workshop, we're offering a $50 discount off the regular price at checkout (use code: PILOT50) and, in return, we would so appreciate you sticking around (if you can) for a short time afterwards to share your candid feedback about your workshop experience. By hearing from you at this critical time, Little Scientists can make sure our shortened workshops are as useful and enjoyable as possible for the incredible early years educators in our sector.

STEM Learning Outcomes

This STEM workshop will provide you with the following learning outcomes through the specific lens of water:

Understand the important role of inquiry-based learning and co-construction in early education.
Uncover how early education can foster children’s metacognitive development.
Learn how communication, reflection, and questioning can enhance children’s ability to think about their own learning.
Exchange ideas and experiences with other like-minded educators and reflect on your current practice.
Receive comprehensive topic-specific materials with educational STEM ideas and information about inquiry-based practices.
The confidence to pass on your new knowledge and skills to your colleagues and to become a STEM champion in your service.
Use STEM to support children’s literacy and extend their vocabulary by modelling scientific language and engaging in sustained communication with children about their ideas and experiences.
Learn how embodied experiences relate to language development and enhance learning.
Confident in how to tap into, guide, and focus children’s natural interests and abilities.

“I really loved the Little Scientists workshop.
I’m excited to take the STEM ideas into the service I work in.”
