Little Seeds, Big Seas: Every Great Ocean Story Starts Small

A family event at the Marine Discovery Centre that explores how tiny beginnings create thriving marine ecosystems.

The concept is that everything starts with a seed, spore or tiny larva.

Visitors receive a "Nature Passport" and complete a series of discovery stations inside the Marine Discovery Centre.

Station 1 – Forests Beneath the Waves

Explore giant kelp and other seaweeds, and how to group them by colour

Interactive activity:

• View filamentous seaweeds under microscopes

• Build a seaweed together

Station 2 – Build an Oyster Reef

Children work together to construct a model oyster reef.

Learn how one tiny oyster larva can eventually filter hundreds of litres of water and create habitat for countless animals.

 Station 3 – Meet the Next Generation

Explain how vulnerable young marine animals are and what they need to survive.

Kids receive a "Junior Seahorse Guardian" sticker.

Station 4 – Meet a Marine Parks Ranger

Find out how to protect Whales in South Australia

Planting the seeds of ocean literacy—one child at a time

Kids decorate their own marine parks bag to keep

Station 5 – Kaurna Knowledge

With a Kaurna educator.

Traditional knowledge about seasonal change, plants, food and caring for Country.

 Station 6 – Future Ocean Wall

Kids write or draw one action they'll take for nature.

Examples:

• I'll refuse plastic straws.

• I'll pick up rubbish.

• I'll protect seagrass.

• I'll teach my grandparents about marine parks.

These become a giant "Forest of Promises."

$16.50 per child (children 3 and under are free of charge)

* Please note: Tickets are only required for children, one parent per child (multiple children are allowed though). Parents must order their ticket (free of charge) when purchasing tickets for children. Parents must stay with children throughout the session. Children under 3 years of age are free of charge when attending with a paying child
