Little Women
Event description
"In this story, they never grow up. They just stay the same and it lasts forever."
Mandurah Baptist College is proud to present a wonderfully engaging adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's classic novel Little Women, by Kate Hamill.
The play focuses on Jo March, who isn’t your typical Victorian lady. Actually, Jo's not sure she wants to be a lady at all! An aspiring writer, the headstrong Jo must negotiate with rigid societal norms to realise her dreams of independence. Against the backdrop of the Civil War, the beloved March sisters grow together and apart, discovering love, joy, and friendship as they learn the importance of family and being true to oneself. In a war-torn world defined by gender, class, and personal tragedy, Jo March gives us her greatest story: that of the March sisters, four dreamers destined to be imperfect "little women".
Performed by our Year 12 Drama General students, with the assistance of selected Year 9 and 10 Drama students, Kate Hamill’s fresh and lively adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel will bring the entire family together.
“Ms. Hamill’s feminist-friendly spin of Alcott’s novel is by turns funny and painfully poignant…it touched me to the heart.” —Wall Street Journal.
