Event description

Trauma Party are a post punk collective formed in Waiheke Island of all places. Even in paradise the alchemy of noise, rebellion, and the stench of full fisted catharsis can still ring true. Consisting of legendary frontman Buddy Olsen, veteran guitarist Solomon Cole ( Space Waltz, The Solomon Cole Band), long term punk underground drummer Kirsty Swanney ( Glass Cell) and bassist Ron Kramer, the quartet formed over a show opening for UK electro goth mainstays Attrition (UK) at the Tuning Fork this year under another band. Having decided that their collective influences and extremely nuanced personalities made for a great new band, Trauma Party was forged.

The band cite their sound as a cross between The Skeptics, Jesus Lizard, Bauhaus, and Gang of Four

Turn on the News have been hailed as ‘Australasia’s leading Punk Rock Band’ (Goosebumps issue 25). They are far more than that. Terry the drummer comes from years of jazz drum training and adds an eclectic percussion layer to well-crafted alt/punk tracks. Jamie the bassist, adds his years of punked-out, funked-out bass experience, and Justin, the guitarist, soars over the sound, creating an expertly produced sonic masterpiece. The band, originating in a basement in the Rotorua valley, forged out an all-class live set. With the band's upcoming second full-length album set to release in September 2025, they add a whole new catalogue of classic riffs and hooks to go along with their debut EP and Album. Check out their previous releases on all streaming sites to be ready for the full immersion of ‘Turn on the News’.

The troubador returns from exile, dodging bullets and arrows, he returns to where it all began.. Tales of misadventure shall ring true from the humble local misfit
