This Gambling Harm Awareness Week (4-10 September), we have the privilege of welcoming two people with lived experience of gambling harm to share their stories of addiction and recovery. We will hear from one person who gambled, and another who was affected by someone else's gambling.

These stories are key to understanding the harm gambling causes within our communities in Aotearoa, and unpacking the shame and stigma which limits people reaching out for help.

This wānanga is designed for professionals working in the community to gain a deeper understanding of how gambling affects whānau and individuals, what pathways to support are effective, and what we can do to de-stigmatise gambling and open more avenues for people experiencing harm from gambling products.

We'll also share about the Peer Support offered by PGF Services, which provides invaluable empathetic support to tāngata whaiora / clients on their journey through gambling harm. A peer support worker in the gambling harm sector is an individual who has personally experienced and overcome issues related to gambling and now uses their own experiences to provide support, guidance, and assistance to others who are struggling with similar challenges.
