Living landscapes - Identifying habitat and wildlife in the Illawarra

Curious to see who’s passing through your patch? Come along to learn how to identify habitats and monitor native wildlife using motion-activated cameras and acoustic bird recorders.  

Event details:

Join South East Local Land Service staff and local species experts, Garry Daly and Rachel Melrose, for this 3-part workshop and walk series in Jamberoo. 

Workshop 1: Thursday 8 October, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm (lunch provided) 

• Learn habitat and fauna survey techniques. 

• Map key habitat features at your place.

• Receive hands-on training in wildlife camera use. 

• Take home a camera to begin monitoring wildlife on your property. 

 Workshop/walk 2: Tuesday 20 October, 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm 

• Frog and Bird ID walk at Jerrara Dam. 

• Learn from experts Garry Daly (Local Ecologist) and Rachel Melrose (Senior Threatened Species Officer, DCCEEW). 

• Discover tools and techniques to improve fauna identification skills. 

Workshop/walk 3: Thursday 12 November, 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm 

• Share monitoring results with the group. 

• Return equipment. 

• Participate in a Frog ID walk during FrogID Week. 

• Gain valuable skills, connect with local experts, and contribute to understanding and protecting the region's biodiversity. 

Additional details:

• Please note: this is a 3-part workshop series, and participants are expected to attend all 3 workshops.

• So we can best tailor our delivery to the needs of the participants, we're asking participants to consider participating in a quick interview with the workshop hosts before and after attending the workshop series. Participation is optional, but helpful.
