Living Together: Rights, Roles & Responsibilities

How should we live together?

Every community depends on some balance between individual freedom and shared responsibility. We have rights we want respected, roles we are expected to play, and responsibilities we may owe to family, neighbours, workplaces, communities, strangers, and society as a whole.

But where should the balance sit?

In this Bacchus Marsh Philosophy Club session, we’ll ask:

What do we owe each other when we live together?

Together, we’ll explore questions such as:

• What rights should every person have?

• Do rights always come with responsibilities?

• How much should we be shaped by our social roles?

• When should personal freedom give way to the needs of others?

• What makes a community fair, respectful, and liveable?

As always, no prior knowledge of philosophy is needed. The session will be friendly, structured, and discussion-based. We are not here to win the argument — we are here to explore the question together.
