The Red Rattler Presents "Travellers Guide" EP Launch!

Liyah Knight launches her sophomore EP, “Travellers Guide” with support from Anieszka and Molly Millington at The Red Rattler Theatre.

As an artist whose voice is uniquely intertwined with accessible yet nuanced storytelling, Liyah Knight’s next chapter explores a genre-defying musical narrative through the peaks and troughs of love, honouring the all-encompassing range of emotions and experiences along the way. Loosely guided by Kelley & Conner's 'Emotional Cycle of Change', the six-track EP sees Liyah team up with the likes of Diesel, Tasker, IAMMXO, Garret Kato and Penny Pariah, Korky Buchek and Cyrus, as she puts pen to paper navigating these myriad layers, from naivety in love and embracing the unfamiliar, through to a deeper understanding of the self. Traversing a personal, unique fusion of various sonic tones, from folk to indie-pop and more, Knight pin-points exact emotions via a journeyed bare-all approach to songwriting.

Liyah Knight says on the EP: “So, I've opened up, I've removed the layers, and I've let somebody in. Now what? Following my debut EP NESTING, Travellers Guide explores the journey of being open to the unfamiliar; Once we strip back our layers, we are ultimately allowing ourselves to be vulnerable and to be open to new experiences. In this instance, that new experience is love. Love is exciting, love is multidimensional, and love is enlightening.”

Travellers Guide opens to previously heard single, “Moon Baby”. The slow and steady swagger of an enunciated beat provides a backdrop to Liyah’s powerful heart-on-sleeve croons. Next up, the EP’s latest single “Hurricane” is a guitar-strumming love song, that could be suited for moonlit evenings pondering new feelings, or the accompaniment to a peaceful night spent in one’s own company. Liyah adds, it is “a story about basking in the bliss of new love. It's the early stage of a relationship heavily characterised by infatuation and simplicity; blind to any red flags."

Liyah’s latest single, “Threads” follows, which after receiving a wealth of support across the airwaves including FBi Radio, Triple R, PBS and triple j, received a remix treatment from Foura and Chelsea Warner. The original stands proudly on its own, in its delicate intimacy and introspection before “Holiday” arrives next. Double-layered vocals enveloped in Liyah’s unmistakable smokey husk give the track an infectious stance, as Liyah asks, ‘is this another holiday for you?’.

Next, the slower and swirling track “Riddle” is up, seeing Liyah’s vocals stand-alone beneath a pitter-pattered beat. Here, her journey through love’s ups and downs reaches a level of self-awareness in the ownership of one’s own feeling, and climbs toward the EP’s final track, “No Strings”. A bittersweet song dedicated to defining the end of relationships, Liyah explores how it means to be attached, or to simply let things go in the climactic progression to self-enlightenment.

Since the release of her debut EP, NESTING in 2020, Liyah Knight has swifty enraptured Australian audiences, commanding their attention as a talented songwriter and musician to watch as well as an multi-talented creative director. The EP existed as a beautiful and kinetic introduction to Liyah’s genre-defying web of emotions, all grounded in her intimate and considered approach to composition and arrangement. Liyah was quick to receive praise from triple j Unearthed and community radio upon the EP’s release, as well as support from tastemakers including Astrophe Magazine, Pilerats, Acclaim, Filter Zine, Coup de Main and more since. From the live stage, Liyah has supported Budjerah and Milan Ring, as well as made her Australian television debut on ABC’s The Set with Peking Duk, reaffirming her presence as a dynamic and multi-disciplinary performer.
