Join us to explore the expression of love through artistic creation. Author and poet Liza Achilles will share modern Shakespearean love sonnets in conversation with visual artist Amanda Humphrey. They will discuss poems about color, light, painting, and photography—and the age-old artistic trope of the beauty and agony of love.

Two Novembers is a sonnet sequence that carries the beauty and drama of an ancient poetic style into the twenty-first century.

Liza Achilles is the author of Two Novembers: A Memoir of Love ’n’ Sex in Sonnets, published by Beltway Editions on July 1, 2024. She has contributed poetry and nonfiction to Beltway Poetry Quarterly, The Headlight Review, Tofu Ink Arts Press, Brief Wilderness, The Big Windows Review, Burrow, Exacting Clam, the Washington Independent Review of Books, the Silent Book Club blog, and independent blogs. Amanda Humphrey is a science illustrator and artist with over two decades of experience in the publishing industry. She creates illustrations that convey complex concepts for students and biomedical professionals. She is currently the staff illustrator at the Journal of Clinical Investigation. She also makes fused glass art—maybe you’ve seen her glass sardines hanging from the ceiling at Monahan’s Seafood. She lives in Saline, Michigan.
