Tue, 1 Dec, 9:30am - 12:30pm AWST

Description

Most organisations only get 30 minutes a year with their Minister - if they are lucky enough to get a meeting at all.

Getting a ministerial meeting takes weeks of effort. And it can be often be over before you've made your case, and usually without anything concrete agreed. This session is about making sure that doesn't happen to you.

Over three hours, we'll work through how ministerial offices actually operate, how to secure a meeting, and what you need to do before, during and after a meeting to ensure you get the most of your time with decision-makers.

What we'll cover

  • How a Minister's office really works, and who sees your request before the Minister does

  • Getting the meeting: who to ask, how to ask, and when

  • What a Minister needs from you before, during and after the meeting

  • Structuring the meeting so your ask lands in the time you have

  • How to build effective relationships with staffers

  • Building an effective pitch, "ladder asks" and your elevator pitch

  • The common mistakes to avoid

  • Following up so the meeting turns into a commitment

Who is this for?

CEOs, managers, advocacy and policy staff, and board members from WA not-for-profits, social enterprises, charities and community organisations who meet with Ministers, or want to. No prior experience needed.

What you'll leave with

A clear approach you can use for your next meeting, a plan on how to build effective relationships with ministerial offices and practical feedback on your own ask. Come with a real issue in mind and we'll use it.
