Overcoming extreme poverty, child slavery, a tiger attack, a critical head injury and civil war, Som Tamang's tenacity led him to Australia. Through hard work and a touch of serendipity, he carved out a brighter future for generations to come.

Kirsty Nancarrow is an award-winning journalist and business owner (eMotion Video Training & Production) who grew up in Sydney and now lives in Cairns. She started her journalism career in Sydney and went on to work for the ABC for 15 years, including several periods working for ABC News and Current Affairs in Sydney. During that time she interviewed Som Tamang for the ABC after the 2015 Nepal earthquake and was inspired to write his biography after volunteering for a month in his village, Batase, Nepal. She founded Women in Media Far North Queensland and has served on the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance Federal Council.
