Local Food On Country 2025
Event description
We are thrilled to be hosting Local Food On Country again in 2025.
The Fleurieu and Hills region is home to an extraordinary food landscape—one shaped by the land, the people who steward it, and the traditions that sustain it. Local Food on Country is more than just an event; it’s an opportunity to connect deeply with the stories, knowledge, and flavours that make our local food system thrive.
Join us for a day of learning and celebration, where you’ll:
🌿 Learn from First Nations custodians about the deep connections between food, culture, and Country.
🍽 Taste the best of local produce and meet the passionate farmers, producers, and innovators behind it.
🎤 Be inspired by thought leaders sharing stories of resilience, sustainability, and action in our food community.
🎶 Experience the sounds of Country with live Indigenous and local music celebrating culture and connection.
🧩 Engage the whole family with our interactive local food trail activity, designed for all ages.
Let’s support local food, value country and celebrate the special people behind this incredible food region.
The day will begin with a special Welcome to Country by Uncle Wally, Peramangk elder, followed by a range of local activities- including a Ngarrindjeri craft corner, a producers market and a fun filled local food trail - where everyone can discover and learn more about our amazing local food producers.
There will be local music: the lovely Katie Aspel, local Ngarrindjeri/Gunditjmara woman will be joining us and playing amongst the olive grove.
We are thrilled to have Quahli Newchurch proud local Kaurna woman joining us again to speak and following her will be John Mannion CE Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation on the importance of mental wellbeing, a very valuable conversation to be having given the drought. And then the wonderful Chris Day Cockatoo Creek Farm, and Dave Hey Baker will share their stories and inspiration on the future of local food in the region.
Food, glorious local food: Local hampers and local meat and salad boxes are available for pre purchase - this is a great way to taste local produce and to support local farmers in a very dry year.
