Looping for Mental Health
Description
As we approach Invisible Disability week, I'm hosting this workshop to coincide and contribute to my fellow studio artist Lesley's @ezfrommelbs upcoming exhibition "Hidden" which will run from the 10th-25th October.
This exhibition focus' on her own personal journey of navigating life with mental health challenges and aims to break down stigma surrounding this topic.
All funds from this workshop will be donated to the Black Dog institute.
In this workshop you will be taught how to use paper twine to loop around jar or bottle to create your own lightweight basket.
Looping is a simple yet versatile basketry technique with a history spanning back thousands of years and found in many cultures around the world.
It is a meditative practice that invites mindfulness through repetitive movement — a gentle way of healing through your hands.
*Art can provide a non-verbal way to express emotions that may be difficult to communicate through words.
*Repetitive movements can encourage focus, helping move attention away from stressful thoughts.
*Rhythmic movement may help regulate breathing, contributing to a sense of relaxation.
*Activities that involve repeated hand movements can provide a feeling of structure, predictability and control.
All materials provided.
Perfect for beginners.
No previous basketry experience is required.
