About the Course

This one-day workshop is for those brand-new to watercolour, as well as those wanting to learn more about the medium and explore some of the looser effects that it offers. Participants will be introduced to a range of basic materials and techniques for starting their own creative watercolour journey with confidence.

In this workshop we will first explore the properties of watercolour paint including:

• transparency, granulation, staining, lifting and drying

• how watercolour paint responds to different types of papers 

• how the amount of water used affects the way the paint behaves 

Focusing on emotional expressionism rather than precise detail, we will paint some simple floral arrangements while experimenting with a range of techniques. We will use wet on wet, wet on dry, splashing, layering, bold brushstrokes and vibrant colour to embrace spontaneity and create dynamic work that evokes a sense of movement and atmosphere.

By the end of the day you will have completed several small floral pieces and have the knowledge needed to confidently continue on your own creative path.

No materials needed. Just bring yourself.

Tea and coffee will be provided. Bring your own lunch. There is a fridge and microwave for your use.
