A Journey to India - Celebrate Diwali - The Indian Festival of Lights - in Adelaide.
Join acclaimed chef, Emma McCaskill and travel writer, Fiona Caulfield to celebrate the Indian festival of Diwali. Together they will create an evening that will transport you to India through food, music and more.
Diwali is the Hindu Festival of Lights and is a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness, of good over evil and of knowledge over ignorance. In India, the festival is celebrated over five days, in preparation people decorate their homes with lights ready to welcome the goddess Lakshmi who is believed to bring prosperity. Food is a hugely important and families and friends gather to celebrate and enjoy Diwali feasts.
Emma McCaskill is a leading Australian chef, whose food philosophy celebrates cooking in Australia while drawing on her Indian family heritage and extensive experience working at some of the globes finest restaurants including Tetsuya in Sydney, Sat Bains in the UK and Narisawa in Tokyo. Emma’s range of specialty dishes reflect her journey of self-discovery through her Indian ancestry and tonight, she and her team will serve a delicious three course meal. Please let us know any dietary requirements at the time of booking.
Sharon Romero, the effervescent owner of Fino Vino will host the evening and will welcome guests with a special Indian cocktail or Indian beer. Sharon will serve two white wines and two red wines. Additional drinks can be purchased at the bar for anyone who is feeling thirsty.
The evening will commence with a sitar performance by Alan Posselt. Alan has a deep understanding and connection with Hindustani classical music and has been performing, studying and teaching for over fifty years both in India and Australia. He has composed for films and dance and has presented an ABC Radio National series on Indian Classical Music.
All guests will receive a Diwali gift of a Love Travel Guide written by Fiona Caulfield. These completely handcrafted guides are considered the flagships guides to India and have been ranked in the top three guides across the world by Vanity Fair. Fiona's deep knowledge and also her love of India shines through and is contagious!
The evening will support the No Child Hungry Mission by Give India., providing nutrition kits to Indian children ensuring they are safeguarded from malnutrition.
At the moment the event is limited to fifty guests to be Covid-19 compliant and in keeping with the current Government guidelines, drinks will only be served whilst seated. We plan to seat guests at communal tables and will do our best to accommodate groups of friends wanting to sit together. Let us know via a note at the time of booking if you would like to sit with other friends booking separately.
