Event description

Leftovers lurking in the back of the fridge? Tired of eating the same thing day after day? We don't always get the quantities right when preparing our meals but we can add some variety by doing something different with our leftovers.

In this series of free cooking classes, Sushila will teach you simple ways to use leftovers, transforming them into something new and tasty. The class is invited to share the meal together after cooking.

  • Thursday 1 May 6 - 8pm: Leftover Rice Fried rice can be considered to be a nutritious dish as long as it's made with plenty of vegetables.
  • Thursday 8 May 6 - 8pm: Kadhi Soup with Bondi Chickpea flour adds great texture to the soup and a creaminess to the broth when blended. Easy chickpea soup for a weekend meal.
  • Thursday 15 May 6 - 8pm: Leftover Roti Sandwich A balanced option including protein, carbs, and soluble fiber; adding veggies makes it even more nutritious.
  • Thursday 22 May 6 - 8pm: Pao-Bhaji Overlooked veggies in your fridge can make a delicious dish. A great source of minerals, vitamin and fiber.
  • Thursday 29 May 6 - 8pm: Leftover Vegetable Curry Kachoori A deep-fried treat that is far from healthy. A single Kachoori is packed with refined flour, potatoes, or any leftover veggies, all of which are deep-fried in oil.

This is a free series of cooking classes limited to 15 people per class. Participants will be invited to give feedback at the conclusion of the series.

Hosted by Aotearoa Sustainability Group at Gribblehirst Hub with support from Love Food Hate Waste NZ.

Sushila Jaduram
I am originally from Fiji Island, a town called Labasa. Our families lived together in a big Bungalow in  those days. At the age of 8 years old, I became very close to my grandparents and always took interest in their cooking. My grandparents were from India.
My Grandmother taught me how to cook traditional Indian food, how to source the right ingredients, and understand the spices. I am extremely passionate about bringing the traditional Vegan-Vegetarian Indian cooking to the average home. I believe there is a magic that comes from home-cooked meals and the unity it brings. Join me in this taste adventure, prepare your mouth-buds for an explosion of flavour!
