Loz Lawrey is a Central Victoria–based singer-songwriter whose music blends heartfelt storytelling with an eclectic mix of styles, from folk and soul to reggae, ska, punk, and rock.

Loz, a lifelong word and melody enthusiast, draws inspiration from a diverse range of sources, from the powerful protest songs of the ’60s American folk movement to the raw energy of ’70s British punk and the infectious groove of Jamaican reggae. He creates songs that ignite vivid images, stir emotions and spark conversations, with lyrics grounded in personal experiences and exploring topics like playful escapism, protest and social justice.

“I’m a big fan of words and music—lyrics, rhythm and melody. I enjoy listening to singers and the stories they share, and I love the imagery in songs, the pictures and feelings they bring to life.”

Even though Loz started recording professionally later in life, he’s been singing and playing guitar for over 50 years, performing at kitchen tables, pubs, porches and sometimes even on the street. He describes himself as “basically a folk singer who loves many musical styles,” aiming to create songs that connect deeply, soothe, provoke thought and leave a lasting impression.

His fifth album, Zeitgeist Rock ’n’ Roll, was recorded at Canberra’s Pendragon Studios with his long-time collaborator and producer, David Pendragon, along with some of the region’s best musicians. He’s also worked with Howling at the Moon (2023), Wonderland (2022), Hope (2018) and Leaving Sadland (2015).

With Zeitgeist Rock ’n’ Roll, Loz invites listeners into stories that are honest, warm and alive. It’s music designed to be heard, felt and remembered.
