107 Projects (Rooftop)
redfern, australia
dualplover
Event description
dualpLOVER has been risen from the dead to output their first physical release since Senyawa's Acaraki LP in 2014!!! and its a blistering little thing featuring Lucas Abela on glass with Zach Hill on drums.
to launch the single Lucas will be performing Live using the very stems Zach provided to create the recordings (they were meant to record full album together but VISA troubles delaying session until October album sometime in 2024).
special guests also performing on the night are
Low Lung (8:30pm)
https://lowflung.bandcamp.com/...
Low Flung is the long-standing project of Sydney based visual artist Danny Wild. Equally influenced by dub’s sense of space and the rolling expanse of the Australian landscape, Danny fuses field recordings and organic instruments with synthesized soundscapes and buoyant digi basslines to create music that offers an uncanny evocation
of place and a keen spatial awareness. - "Hani Hanbali"
Loose-y Crunche (9:30pm)
https://alteredstatestapes.ban...
Loose-y Crunché is a spin-off multiplication of Lucy Cliche bringing you irritatingly raw and reasonably improvised relentless electronic crunch zone headache beats and disjointed noise tracks.
Lucas Granpa Abela (10:30pm)
https://granpa.bandcamp.com/
Lucas Granpa Abela as an improviser known for playing their signature instrument; shards of amplified glass, in a show The New York Times described as sounding like "John Coltrane playing a volcano". Since its invention, the glass has evolved from a means to create free-noise cacophonies into an incredibly versatile instrument producing an organic form of outsider electronica. Performed like a bell-less saxophone, Abela’s lips subtly transmit micro-sonic vibrations into the pane to feed a complex modular patch producing both raw audio & control voltages, so the dynamics & frequency of their performance modulates itself within varying parallel effects chains, that together create the illusion of a ghostly accompaniment, forming dense layers of anomalous music. Although principally a solo artist Abela has collaborated with a disparate array of artists Including; Lou Reed, Yamatsuka Eye (Boredoms), Dave Grohl (Nirvana), Flaming Lips (Peel Session), Trey Spruance (Mr Bungle), Deerhoof, Bill Orcutt, Masami Akita (Merzbow), Otomo Yoshihide, Chris Abrahams (the Necks), Oren Ambarchi, Robin Fox, Senyawa, Kevin Bleechdom, Death Grips etc.
about the 7"
Never is a collaboration that fuses Zach Hill’s frenetic drumming dynamics onto Lucas Abela’s textural glass noise. For the project Zach’s drumming is used to generate rhythmical control voltages to interpolate his performances into Lucas's glass sound using modular gear. To be clear when referring to modular the project uses zero synthesis, instead think of this collaboration as Lucas’ glass being an oscillator or synth voice while Zach’s drumming takes on sequencing and envelope generation duties. Essentially when they play together a myriad of parameters within various parallel effects chains are being automatically adjusted simultaneously by Zach’s performance. Each strike creating an envelope replicating its attack decay sustain and release that’s used to adjust settings within the modular system causing Abela’s sustained textural glass signal to be rhythmically torn apart by Zach’s drumming.
the 7" 45rpm single limited is to 1000 copies.
