Lughnasadh Circles

A Fleadh Fringe event rooted in ancient Irish solstice traditions and the quiet symbolism of stone circles, this sound piece invites people to gather, be still, and mark the turning of the season together.

From 4pm on Saturday 9th August, a five-hour ambient composition produced by Rory Friers (And So I Watch You From Afar) will slowly unfold inside The Commons — Ballynafiegh Church, a disused place of worship reimagined as a living space for the city.

A pagan ritual in a former church. A reinvented space for community, contemplation, and culture. Somewhere to step inside, sit down, let the sound move through you, and find your way back to yourself.

The composition begins as the afternoon light softens and builds gradually toward a shared crescendo as the sun descends. Running from 4.09pm until sunset at 9.09pm, a curated series of sessions will weave through the five hours — musicians, lyricists, and creators joining the piece at intervals, their contributions phasing in and out: harmonic and dissonant, vocal and instrumental, intimate and expansive. Each performer brings something distinct; together they form something larger.

This is not a concert to watch. It is a space to inhabit. Come for an hour or stay for the full arc of the evening. Drift in and out. Listen closely or let the sound wash over you.

At the end, as the light finally fades and the sound swells to meet it, we invite you to come closer — to gather in the circle, and mark this moment together. Ancient and modern. Quiet and alive.
