What is Lughnasadh? Lughnasadh/Lammas is one of the eight Sabbats from the Wheel of the Year. Each of these Sabbats mark a seasonal turning point. Lughnasadh/Lammas traditionally occurs on the 1st of February (Southern Hemisphere) and the 1st of August (Northern Hemisphere). This is usually around halfway between Litha (the Summer Solstice) and Mabon (the Autumnal  Equinox). This festival represents the cross quarter celebration. Lughnasadh/Lammas celebrates the first harvest and the beginning of the end of Summer. The name of this festival as Lughnasadh is Irish Gaelic for “Commemoration of Lugh”. Some give the meaning as marriage, gathering or feast (in the name of Lugh). The meaning remains basically the same: Lugh is the Deity of Lughnasadh, and there is a feast. Lughnasadh marks the beginning of the noticeable descent of the Sun into the darkness of Winter. From the connection between the Earth and the Sun we celebrated at Beltane, the fruits of the first harvest of the year emerge. Lughnasadh is a time of joy around the first harvest.

See you there!

Love and light in abundance,

Chloe
