Alison and Lucy from the Reportable Conduct Team in the Ombudsman’s office are delivering this FREE workshop (tea, coffee and lunch provided) about the Reportable Conduct Scheme.

What is the Reportable Conduct Scheme?

The Ombudsman WA manages the WA Reportable Conduct Scheme – the legislated scheme which requires organisations to notify the Ombudsman of allegations of child abuse by their employees and to investigate them. The Ombudsman oversees these investigations.  The Reportable Conduct Scheme was introduced in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Abuse. The purpose of the Scheme is to make WA children safer.

Who:   This event is for people who are responsible for handling allegations of reportable conduct by employees.

Time:  10:30am – 2:30pm

  • 10:30 – 12.00:       Information session: What is the Reportable Conduct Scheme?

  • 12:00 – 12:45:       Lunch

  • 12:45 – 2:30pm:    Workshop: How to do Reportable Conduct investigations.

What will I learn?

This event will give a general overview of the Scheme and investigation requirements, including:

  • legal responsibilities of the head of an organisation

  • types of reportable conduct

  • types of employees subject to the Scheme  

  • notification process

  • investigation processes, including what must be included in an investigation report to the Ombudsman

  • exemption and suspension processes

  • what happens after an investigation
