Celebrate National Coming Out Day with Minus18's Lunch & Learn on Oct 9!

We've created an impactful and engaging session for you to learn about:

  • The history of the day

  • Hear lived-experience stories from our panellists

  • Gain new insights from our Queer Youth Now 2025 Survey

  • And tips to support the LGBTQIA+ people in your lives, when they share their identity with you.

  • Plus: Special guest appearances from Mitch Brown (former AFL player) and his partner Lou Keck (Elephant Ed GM), sharing his personal journey and their reflections on coming out and allyship

History and Origins of National Coming Out Day 

What is Coming Out Day? Where did it come from and how did it come to be?

‘Coming Out’ is ‘Inviting In’: The Many Different Experiences of Sharing Identity

Hear different personal stories of ‘coming out’ and ‘inviting in’ from the Minus18 team and from AFL star, Mitch Brown and his partner Lou. ‘Coming out’ or ‘inviting in’ is not a one time event and looks different for each person and each situation.  

Queer Youth Now 2025: Insights from over 2700 LGBTQIA+ young people
  • Understanding the experiences of queer youth now in 2025

  • Where do young people feel safe to be out to everyone?

  • How do young people suggest we create safer spaces for young people to be their true selves

Supporting Coming Out 
  • Supporting people who share their identity with you: what are the barriers and what can you do?

  • Awareness of intersectional identities and cultural sensitivities.

  • Safety tips for both you and those sharing with you

Who Should Attend?

Will the session be recorded?

  • Recordings will be available for anyone who was unable to attend the session live!

Will I get a certificate? 

  • Yes, you will get a certificate so you can use it for your professional development. 

Will there be a chance to ask questions? 

  • Yes! We will have a dedicated support chat to answer all your questions. Depending on time, we may take some questions from the audience too!  

Is there a group discount?

  • Absolutely! We're encouraging schools and workplaces to sign up using our bundle options. See ticket types for more details.

I want to buy a Corporate Bundle or Unlimited Pass. How does it work?

  • Once you buy the bundle or pass, you will receive an exclusive registration link which can be shared with your internal team members to sign up to the event. Once they register, they will receive the Zoom link to join on the day!

Is there an option to be invoiced?

  • Yes, we can organise invoicing for large group cohorts (10 attendees+). Please email 'bookings@minus18.org.au' with details.

How do I access the event?

  • The event will be run online, via Zoom Webinar. First, you'll need to register for a ticket through Humanitix. An individual link for the session will then be emailed to your registered email.
