Morten Lauridsen's sublime and beautiful choral works

LUX AETERNA & NOCTURNES

Originally scheduled for May 2020 just when COVID hit, and serendipitously now In the year of Lauridsen's 80th birthday, River City Voices is thrilled to perform these LUSCIOUS works for YOU in the atmospheric setting of St Patrick's Cathedral Parramatta.

Hailed as one of The United States' most significant composers, Morten Lauridsen was named an 'American Choral Master' by the National Endowment for the Arts. In 2007 he received the National Medal of Arts from the President in a White House ceremony, "for his composition of radiant choral works combining musical beauty, power and spiritual depth that have thrilled audiences worldwide."

His works have been recorded on more than 200 CDs, five of which have received Grammy Award nominations, including two all-Lauridsen discs entitled Lux Aeterna by the Los Angeles Master Chorale led by Paul Salamunovich.

Under the baton of renowned conductor, Dr Sarah Penicka-Smith, River City Voices will make its own mark in this prestigious and uplifting performance.

Joining River City Voices are Samuel Giddy on organ and Su Choung on Piano.

The concert will also feature choral works by award-winning Australian composer Alice Chance.

And here's a sneak preview of a Nocturnes song, Sure on This Shining Night, virtually recorded by River City Voices at the end of 2020.
