Event description

Sophie’s Story is the first of four books in a series of books written from the child’s perspective. Their parents are divorcing. Sophie is almost 4, Peter is 8, Zac is 11, and Tommas is 15. They are all affected by the divorce, each in a different way.

  • Sophie knows she lives in two houses now.  She relies on routine, and her grandparents as she navigates how to live 2 separate but same lives.
  • Peter is scared that he might have to choose between his parents. He hates rows. He doesn’t know what is supposed to be a secret or what isn’t.
  • Zac is distressed at the shouting and he wonders if he caused this family breakup.
  • Tommas is being thrust into an adult world, and now has to pull his weight. But he is only fifteen.

They want their voices to be heard. You can hear the sadness but know they are also resilient. These books are for children, to see themselves in print, to know that they are not alone. And if Mum or Dad picks up these books they will see how they may be able to help.

Along with the Books for Children Lynley has just published “Tips from a Mediator for Divorcing Couples”. This is for those couples to help them in mediation to get through the painful days of separation and divorce. It is there to act as a guide in mediation, to recognise the pain and anger yet still show them a practical path forward.
