Event description

Akasya Kape presents Ma’am Tere: A Documentary About the People Behind Specialty Coffee in the Philippines

Curious caffeinators and Filipino foodies of Melbourne - have you met Ma’am Tere?

As Melburnian cafe culture continues its worldwide influence, the Filipino coffee scene is thriving.

With new-wave cafes popping up on every city corner, our regional neighbours draw on the Philippines’ rich agriculture and skilled production to meet a global appetite for quality beans.

At the forefront is Kalsada Coffee, a Manila-based group partnering with farms across the archipelago.

THE FILM

Sharing the story of Filipino specialty coffee from farm to cup, Ma'am Tere is a fly-on-the-wall documentary by Paul Barreto. We follow Kalsada Coffee on visits to farms in Benguet and Bukidnon, led by co-founder and country director, Tere Domine - known locally as ‘Ma’am Tere’ - a tireless advocate for ethical trade, building communities through sustainable farming practices. This is a real snapshot of provincial life and a successful grassroots industry, growing in global popularity.
