o learn about LGBTIQ+ Inclusion and what it means to be an Ally at Macquarie University, staff and students undertake a 1,5-hour professional development workshop to increase their knowledge, understanding, and awareness of issues affecting members of the LGBTIQ+ community including:
- Exploring the difference between sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and intersex status.
- Empathising with the lived experience of LGBTIQ+ people and explore some of the issues facing the community.
- Challenging the assumptions held about LGBTIQ+ people and recognising the diversity and intersectionality of their identities.
- Understanding the university’s commitment to supporting sexual and gender diversity and why LGBTIQ+ inclusion.
- Developing skills to become an active bystander, learning how to combat homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, heterosexism and other forms of prejudice.
- Understanding the role individuals play as agents of social change.
This workshop will be followed up by a 30min MQ support and resources session for Allies.
