o learn about LGBTIQ+ Inclusion and what it means to be an Ally at Macquarie University, staff and students undertake a 1,5-hour professional development workshop to increase their knowledge, understanding, and awareness of issues affecting members of the LGBTIQ+ community including:

Exploring the difference between sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and intersex status.
Empathising with the lived experience of LGBTIQ+ people and explore some of the issues facing the community.
Challenging the assumptions held about LGBTIQ+ people and recognising the diversity and intersectionality of their identities.
Understanding the university’s commitment to supporting sexual and gender diversity and why LGBTIQ+ inclusion.
Developing skills to become an active bystander, learning how to combat homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, heterosexism and other forms of prejudice.
Understanding the role individuals play as agents of social change.

This workshop will be followed up by a 30min MQ support and resources session for Allies.
