Event description

We want to invite National Trust Members of the Hawkesbury Branch to come together for a special Christmas Morning Tea. Members will enjoy a private tour of the Macquarie Schoolhouse, built by Captain John Brabyn in 1820 to serve a triple purpose: a schoolhouse during the week, a chapel for religious services, and the residence of the schoolmaster and his family. It was used as a chapel until 1859, when the construction of the Church was completed. It was then used as a schoolhouse until 1880, when the public school was opened in Wilberforce. The Schoolhouse has continued to be used for Parish activities since then.

St John's Church is a Blacket-designed church. The community's need for the church was identified in the 1840s, but construction of the building did not begin until 1859.

Enjoy a lovely morning tea on the grounds of these historic buildings.

National Trust members are free to attend this event, but we ask that you consider a donation to support the conservation and care of the Macquarie Schoolhouse and St John's (Blacket) Church.
