MODArts Dance Collective (MADC) presents Move to Change
Event description
MODArts Dance Collective (MADC) presents Move to Change - a festival which uses dance as a form of social justice and arts activism through the lens of BIPOC choreographers and cinematographers. The goal of Move to Change is to create cultural and gender affirming spaces for artists of color to educate, empower, & illuminate issues that reflect their histories and cultures through their unique and rich movement aesthetics. This hybrid festival consists of live performances in an evening concert and dance films streamed online. The 2025/26 season's theme is the Swahili word 'Kujichagulia' meaning self-determination. The dance pieces/dance films will highlight the Kwanzaa meaning of Kujichagulia: to define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves, and speak for ourselves.
The thirteen choreographers and collaborators who will share their work in the live evening concert are Janet Aisawa and Osamu Uehara; Ellicia Clayton; Megan Curet; Stephen Hill; DeVante Love; Parisha Rajbhandari; Taylor Richardson; Jade Charon Robertson; Casey Schwarz; Kayla Spalding; Leah Tubbs/MODArts Dance Collective; and Ashlyn Williams.
The ten cinematographers who will share their dance film/documentary streamed online from November 8-29 are Stacey Allen; Solenn Etienne; Shanik Anais Garcia; dominique hargrove; Anabella Lenzu; Patric Neves; Shoko Tamai; Ma Te; Safiya Vanterpool; and Randolph Ward.
