Made in Australia Exhibition Opening Night

As part of our 35th anniversary celebrations, we’re bringing together a collection of Australian-made instruments and bows to showcase the rich history and continuing evolution of Australian lutherie.

Explore over 20 historic and contemporary instruments and bows, enjoy live performances by a string quartet featuring works by renowned Australian composers Ross Edwards and Chloe Charody, and sample boutique Australian wines.

Guests will also have the opportunity to go behind the scenes with tours of the Glanville & Co workshop, where you can see how modern technology, including 5-axis CNC machining and 3D-printed templates, is helping to shape the future of violin-making in Australia.

The exhibition will feature historical instruments by A. E. Smith, Kitty Smith, Rod Smith, Guy Aubrey Griffin and Cedric Clarke alongside contemporary instruments by Rainer Beilharz, Peter Goodfellow, John Simmers, Hugh Withycombe, Martin Schuster, Harry Vatiliotis, Adele Beardsmore, Wei Luk, Jim Ellender, Matthew Tucker, David Glanville and Glanville & Co.

We’re also pleased to welcome special guest Andrew Baker from Leatherwood Rosin, who will be showcasing his Australian-made rosins and answering questions about finding the right rosin for your instrument.

A selection of historic and contemporary instruments will be available for trial and purchase for a limited time after the opening night. Please email sales@violins.com.au for more information and to arrange a trial. Prices range from $2,500–$125,000.

Doors open at 6pm, with formalities starting soon after, so please arrive by 6:15pm at the latest.
