Event description

The Student Music Collective presents Mahler Symphony 2: Resurrection in collaboration with the Derwent Symphony Orchestra, Hobart Chamber Orchestra, Secret Orchestral Society, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, and Tasmanian Youth Orchestra. This event will feature soloists Grace Ovens (soprano) and Katharine Tier (mezzo-soprano) and will be conducted by Gary Wain, with Chorusmaster Madeleine Dyer. We're excited to welcome you to the first performance of this symphony in 15 years! 

This concert is being dedicated to violinist Con Lavroff (1935 - 2024). It will run for around 1 hour 45 minutes. 

This event will take place on the unceded lands of the Mouheneener people in nipaluna (Hobart).

Accessibility: There is level access to City Hall via the main entrance on Macquarie St. and there are no steps inside. The seating will be on a level floor and can be removed to allow for wheelchairs and mobility scooters. Both Market Place Carpark and Dunn Place Carpark across the road have disability permit parking. City Hall has an accessible toilet. The performance will last approximately 1 hour 45 minutes during which there will be no interval. Sensory warnings: The house lights will be turned off for the duration of the performance, only the performers onstage will be lit. Mahler’s symphony features sudden and unexpected changes in volume. Earplugs will be available at the door. The performance will last approximately 1 hour 45 minutes during which there will be no interval.
