Majlis: Palestine Solidarity & The Limits of Electoral Politics

When demands for liberation enter electoral politics, they encounter questions of political strategy, representation, public perception and compromise. Who gets to determine what is politically possible? What happens when a demand is reframed, amended or dismissed as merely symbolic? And who decides what constitutes meaningful political action? For some, these questions are coming into particularly sharp focus as political conference comes to Brighton.

We invite you to step outside the immediacy of these discussions and consider the wider questions they bring into view. Together, we will explore the tensions between political principle and pragmatism, solidarity and paternalism, political recognition and material change. What happens when people who share commitments to Palestinian liberation find themselves divided over political demands and strategies? How do we think through these tensions without losing sight of the struggle at their centre? What responsibilities do political actors outside Palestine have, and where are the limits of their authority? Can institutional politics contribute to a liberation struggle without attempting to determine its terms? What can political declarations make possible, and what responsibilities follow from them? And what possibilities for political action exist beyond the ballot box?

Our Majlis offers a space to breathe, reflect and think together, away from the immediacy and pressures of political debate. We invite people to bring their knowledge, experiences and questions into an open, interdisciplinary and non-hierarchical gathering. Rather than a panel or formal debate, the conversation will be shaped collectively, with space for listening, questioning and respectful disagreement.

We ask everyone to be mindful of the space they occupy, to make room for Palestinian knowledge, political perspectives and lived experiences, and to reflect on whose voices are too often given authority in conversations about Palestinian liberation.

We look to bring together people engaged in different forms of solidarity, from electoral politics to grassroots organising and beyond.

This Majlis is convened by Kashaf Collective (كشّاف).

Kashaf is a cultural and community collective committed to challenging dominant narratives, white saviourism, patriarchy and the ways in which the suffering of oppressed peoples is turned into cultural, social and political capital. Through collective inquiry, art and cultural practice, we seek to centre the knowledge and political agency of oppressed communities, ask questions that matter and resist ready-made answers.

مجلس: التضامن مع فلسطين وحدود السياسة الانتخابية

ماذا يحدث حين تصبح الحرية جزءا من مطالب الحملات الانتخابية؟ كيف يمكن للحرية أن تكون جزءا من أي استراتيجية سياسية؟ مَن يحدّد ما هو ممكن سياسياً؟ وماذا يحدث عندما يُعاد تأطير مطلبٍ ما، أو يُعدَّل، أو يُستخفّ به باعتباره مجرّد موقف رمزي؟ ومَن يقرّر ما الذي يشكّل فعلاً سياسياً ذا معنى؟

بالنسبة إلى البعض، تكتسب هذه الأسئلة أهمية خاصة مع انعقاد مؤتمر سياسي في مدينة برايتون.

ندعوكم إلى الابتعاد قليلاً عن زخم هذه النقاشات الآنية، والتأمّل في الأسئلة الأوسع التي تطرحها.

سنستكشف معاً التوترات بين المبدأ السياسي والبراغماتية، وبين التضامن والوصاية، وبين الاعتراف السياسي والتغيير الملموس.

ماذا يحدث عندما يجد أشخاص يجمعهم الالتزام بتحرير فلسطين أنفسهم منقسمين حول المطالب والاستراتيجيات السياسية؟ وكيف يمكننا التفكير في هذه التوترات دون أن نغفل عن النضال الذي يتمحور حوله كل ذلك؟

ما المسؤوليات التي تقع على عاتق الفاعلات/ين السياسيين خارج فلسطين، وأين تقف حدود سلطتهن/م؟ هل يمكن للعمل السياسي المؤسسي أن يسهم في نضال من أجل التحرّر دون أن يفرض شروطه عليه؟ وما إمكانيات العمل السياسي التي تتجاوز صناديق الاقتراع؟

ندعو الجميع إلى المشاركة بمعارفهن/م وتجاربهن/م وتساؤلاتهن/م في لقاء مفتوح، يجمع بين تخصّصات وخلفيات مختلفة، ويسعى إلى تجاوز الهرميات في تبادل المعرفة. لن يكون المجلس ندوةً تقليدية أو مناظرةً رسمية، بل حواراً جماعياً يساهم الحاضرون في تشكيله، ويتيح مساحة للإنصات والتساؤل والاختلاف باحترام.

وندعو الجميع إلى أن يكونوا واعيين بعلاقات القوة ومكانهن/م في هرمية الأجساد التي يسمح لها بإنتاج المعرفة، وإفساح المجال للمعرفة الفلسطينية، والرؤى السياسية الفلسطينية، والتجارب المعيشة، والتفكير في الأصوات التي غالباً ما تُمنح سلطة الحديث والتفسير في النقاشات حول تحرير فلسطين.

كشّاف مجموعة ثقافية ومجتمعية تسعى إلى مساءلة السرديات المهيمنة، وعقلية المنقذ الأبيض، والذكورية، والطرق التي يُحوَّل بها اضطهاد الشعوب ومعاناتها إلى رأس مال ثقافي واجتماعي وسياسي.

من خلال البحث والتساؤل الجماعي، والفن والممارسة الثقافية، نسعى إلى وضع معارف المجتمعات المضطهدة وقدرتها على الفعل السياسي في المركز، وطرح الأسئلة التي تستحق أن تُطرح، ورفض الإجابات الجاهزة والمعلّبة.
